Africa: Securing Women's Rights Through Gender Equality

The African Union declares the year 2016 is African Year of Human Rights with particular focus on the rights of women symbolising women's opportunity to unite, network and mobilize for meaningful change. Although significant progresses have been registered in the last few years, the large number of women are still facing the challenges of inequalities, poverty and violence.

In fact, it was not a coincidence when Africa dedicated two subsequent years to themes with special focus on women. The 2015, was a crucial year for women agenda that brought to the fore-part of the struggle to recognize the role of women and integrate their priorities in all conflict prevention and peace building undertakings. Indeed, the Year 2015 was declared: "Year of Women Empowerment and Development Towards Africa Agenda 2063."
