South Africa - an Evolution in Foreign Policy
Presentation by Xolisa Mabhongo, Ambassador of the Republic of South Africa to Austria, Slovenia and Slovakia. His lecture will be in English language.

South Africa's foreign policy has been evolving since the first democratic elections in 1994. The country plays a pivotal role in the African continent, contributing to peacemaking initiatives as well as development. At the same time South Africa has also pursued strategic partnerships with countries in different parts of the world. In addition to good bilateral relations with countries from all continents South Africa is a member of new formations such as the IndiaBrazil South Africa (IBSA) partnership, a member of BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa). Since 1994 the country has also played an influential role within the United Nations system because of its strong belief in multilateralism.

Organised jointly with the United Nations Youth and Student Association of Austria – Academic Forum for Foreign Affairs – Austria (UNYSA-AUSTRIA).
