The ‘productive’ side was central in traditional development economics where development was seen as being largely about the transformation of the productive structure, with an important role played by industrialization in this process, and the social transformations resulting from this. But this side has become increasingly forgotten during the past three decades. The present discourses lack a vision of transformation in productive structure and are, consequently, unable to promote development.
