Veranstaltungen AWEPA International:

General Induction Seminar for Members of the 9th Parliament of Uganda
Parliament of Uganda, like many other legislatures worldwide is an institution that holds the Executive accountable to the electorate through law-making, representation and oversight. Elections to usher in the 9th Parliament of Uganda were held on the 18th of February 2011. Results from this election indicate a high attrition rate of about 60%. This was largely attributed to the creation of new districts, and municipalities. Of the total 374 members elected, 223 are all new.

In preparation for business of the 9th Parliament, the Parliamentary Commission has therefore embarked on arrangements to have the new MPs inducted into the Parliamentary procedures, etiquette, and principles to ensure an effective and efficient functioning Parliament. In doing this, there is need for both the new and old MPs to jointly undergo this induction programme for purposes of building harmony and close working relationship, which is necessary for bringing functional synergy to the House.

The Association of European Parliamentarians with Africa (AWEPA) in collaboration with the Parliament of Uganda and other development partners is planning to contribute towards the General Induction workshop for Members of the 9th Parliament.

The following are the expected outputs:
  • MPs introduced to working in a multiparty setting
  • MPs equipped with key roles of a Member of Parliament
  • Energies built between Parliament, the other two arms of state, Civil Society and the Media
  • Collaboration enhanced between Parliament, regional and international organisations
Date: 16 to 20 May 2011
Place: Imperial Royale Hotel, Kampala/Uganda
